When people find out I’m a photographer they often ask me what my favorite thing to photograph is. I have a hard time answering because each genre has it’s perks. I love the romance of couples, the glamour of seniors, the story-telling of weddings… but my favorite challenge is working with families with small children. Those of you with little kids know how stressful a photoshoot with children can be. The last thing they want to do is dress up in an outfit (without a cape or princess crown) and stand posing with a big cheese on their face. But I have a process!!!! We let them warm up… get some energy out…. and we form a friendship. It’s then that we capture those images that make mom tear up at the reveal session. It works. And I LOVE seeing the look on the mom’s faces at every reveal. It makes my heart happy.
I’m about to drop a truth bomb. Coming from Arizona with some incredibly harsh sun and almost no shade I was always worried about morning photo shoots. The light can be tough to work with and pretty unforgiving. However, I had visited the Baia Terme ruins with my own family, so when this sweet family booked I knew we’d be able to find some nice open shade if we had a sunny cloud-free day. We got lucky and had a gorgeous morning with some in-and-out cloud cover to bathe them in soft light. Looking back on their session now, I feel that this lighting situation perfectly captured the mood of this beautiful family. Bright, fun and lively.
